Television

Over 99 percent of Britain homes have a TV and the average person watches "the box" 26 hours a week. There are four (non-satellite) TV channels in Britain: BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4. BBC1 and BBC2, the two state channels, do not show adverts. ITV and Chaneel 4, the two independent channels, do show adverts.

BBC1 and ITV tend to broadcast popular proarammes: sports programmes, recent films, the news, gameshows, children's programmes and soap. BBC2 and Channel 4 show programmes which usually attract much smaller audience: Tv plays, classical concert, foreign films and programmes for minority groups. Only eight percent of British homrs subscribe to satellite or cable TV.

Some countries buy British television programmes. The wildlife documentary series are particularly popular.
